 
        
        Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Commercial Renewables
Full-time, Permanent | Woking, Flexible hybrid office | 40hrs per week | Salary £65,000‑£80,000 + Car or allowance + Benefits
A growing UK engineering and construction group is expanding its renewable energy division and seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to drive technical delivery of solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, and hybrid power systems across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
 * Take ownership of electrical design for renewable systems (50 kW‑4 MW+ solar PV, batteries, EV charging).
 * Conduct site surveys and technical due diligence, validating load, protection, and grid interconnection assumptions.
 * Develop complete design documentation: SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, protection settings, construction drawings.
 * Perform detailed electrical calculations to validate compliance and performance.
 * Manage and submit DNO grid connection applications, maintaining communication with network operators.
 * Specify electrical components and equipment, ensuring adherence to BS 7671, ENA G98/G99/G100, IEC, and CDM requirements.
 * Review subcontractor and third‑party designs, providing technical evaluation and sign‑off.
 * Support installation and commissioning, resolving queries and ensuring as‑built documentation accuracy.
 * Contribute to tendering and pre‑construction activities through preliminary designs and technical input.
Experience and Qualifications
 * Extensive experience in electrical design, strong track record in commercial solar PV or renewable projects.
 * In‑depth understanding of BS 7671, ENA G98/G99/G100, and electrical protection and grid connection principles.
 * Demonstrated experience preparing manufacturer‑ready design packs and securing technical approvals.
 * Comfortable engaging with DNOs, main contractors, consultants, and clients on design and compliance matters.
 * Degree or HND in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (Chartered or working towards preferred).
 * Full UK driving licence, flexibility to travel as required.
 * ECS/CSCS card and 18th Edition (BS 7671) qualifications desirable.
