Senior Control Systems Engineer – Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult
Join our Research and Engineering team in Blyth and help accelerate the growth of renewable energy through cutting‑edge control systems solutions.
Responsibilities
* Review the status of the control systems – both hardware and software – at the Blyth site and report annually on each facility.
* Produce and deliver a development and implementation plan that addresses future business obsolescence and necessary upgrades of the OREC PLC/SCADA control systems.
* Work with engineering and test teams to develop control systems and displays that are intuitive, informative and easy to operate.
* Tailor systems to support internal and external customer requirements, including integration with DAQ systems to ensure data integrity and set alarms.
* Provide training, active support and documentation to enable key personnel to operate the installed systems with confidence.
* Collaborate with the wider Research and Engineering team to mitigate risks in all actions and operations related to equipment and facilities.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Degree level education in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Chartered Engineer or equivalent, or working towards professional status.
* Sound knowledge of electrical/mechanical generating plant and apparatus.
* Application of good practice engineering design procedures and tools.
* Advanced knowledge of Functional Safety Systems and Risk Management frameworks (IEC 61508, 61511, 62061, etc.).
* Familiarity with advanced specialist engineering software in an inter‑disciplinary project setting.
* Data analysis and instrumentation integration with control systems.
* Experience with Health & Safety, Environment & Quality within ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 environments.
* Design and development of PLC/SCADA control systems in accordance with current European Standards and best engineering practice.

Working Environment
This role is based across our Blyth facilities and may require some travel as part of the role.
