Role Title: Head of Standards Development

The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteers-led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain technology in the global fight against climate change.
We are looking for a passionate VOLUNTEER who adopts a methodological approach, conducts independent research and analysis, engages with key stakeholders, and establishes strategic partnerships to advance BCI’s mission.
The Head of Standards Development plays a critical role in shaping and advancing standards within the Emerging Technologies Division (ETD). This senior position involves strategic leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and driving innovation through standardisation. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of emerging technologies by ensuring effective standards development and implementation. This role reports to the CTO and collaborates closely with the Director of Legal Research.
As with all roles in BCI, this is a voluntary unpaid position.
You will work with a diverse group of experts, collaborate with leading organisations, and contribute to knowledge and innovation in climate and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
o Develop and implement standards strategies aligned with division goals.
o Collaborate with management to integrate standards into the division’s vision.
2. Standards Development:
o Lead the development and review of technical standards related to emerging technologies (ISO, CEN, BSI, etc.).
o Engage with industry experts, research institutions, and regulatory bodies.
o Ensure standards are relevant, forward-looking, and adaptable.
3. Stakeholder Engagement:
o Work with BCI divisions and external bodies to develop standards and influence regulation.
o Represent BCI at industry forums and standardisation bodies.
o Foster partnerships and contribute to funding applications for standards work.
4. Quality Assurance:
o Oversee the quality and consistency of standards documents.
o Ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
o Monitor standards' impact on innovation and adoption.
o Develop roadmaps for standards adoption and implementation.
o Identify gaps and prioritize standardization areas.
5. Team Management:
o Lead and mentor a team of standards professionals.
o Promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related fields.
* Fluent in English.
* At least 10 years of experience in IT or related fields.
* Strong project management and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and drive projects forward.
Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple demands.
* Experience with Agile projects and stakeholder engagement.
* Leadership experience managing research or technology teams.
* Knowledge of DLT/Blockchain, AI, IoT, Quantum tech, and standards.
* Passion for climate and sustainability issues; willingness to learn.
* Experience with international standards bodies and funding processes.
