SEMH Support Assistant
Location: Preston
Contract: Full-time Term-time only
Salary: 90 - 105 (dependent on experience)
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We're seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join our inclusive, student-centred team. You'll play a vital role in supporting children who face barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural challenges.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
* Supporting students to regulate emotions, engage in learning, and access the curriculum
* Using positive behaviour strategies and restorative practices to promote resilience and independence
* Assisting with planning and delivering tailored learning activities, in and out of class
* Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals
* Supporting with personal care, transitions, or community learning (as required)
What We're Looking For:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, or challenging behaviour (school or youth work background welcomed)
* Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach
* Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour training (or willingness to undertake training)
* Excellent communication and de-escalation skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil well being
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or Youth Work) are desirable
