Volunteer Ascendance Trustee | Ascendance Rep
Ascendance is a Leeds-based dance charity running a Dancing with Parkinson’s Programme across Yorkshire, producing professional dance and film works. We are seeking trustees who share our values and want to help improve the health and wellbeing of people with movement disorders and inspire others to dance through high quality dance and film.
What we’re looking for
We welcome applicants who share our values and believe in helping our charity improve health and wellbeing of people with movement disorders and inspire others to dance through high quality dance and film works. We have identified a range of skills and experiences that would enrich our Board; no single person is expected to have all of them:
* Experience in working in or creating disability-led arts, particularly for movement disorders
* Skills in developing and running arts projects designed to include participants who are often prevented from taking part
* Experience working with young people
* Experience in empowering communities and bringing people together
* Experience in running or managing a small business
* Broad professional networks in Leeds / Yorkshire (e.g., community arts, local businesses)
* Experience supporting the development of artistic talent of young people or those in the wider community
* Experience working in the performing arts sector, arts sector, or cultural sector more broadly
* Willingness to contribute regardless of prior experience in the sector
We also aim to increase representation on our board by welcoming people who identify as disabled, people with movement disorders, people of South Asian heritage, people of African or Caribbean heritage, and people who identify as LGBTQ+.
What will you be doing
Become an Ascendance Trustee. Join our existing Board of Trustees to help shape the future of Ascendance, a Dance for Health charity based in Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire. Our work primarily supports people with Parkinson’s, neurological conditions and older adults. We run community classes, outreach and workshops, digital work, and the Fuse Dance Collective – a training and performance company that develops choreography, teaching, and creative directing skills. We aim to bring joy, creativity and connectivity, and have partnerships with organisations across the North.
