The Head of German is responsible for shaping and driving the strategic direction of the German department. This position requires a dynamic and forward‑thinking educator with a passion for language learning, cultural awareness, and academic excellence. The successful candidate will lead the planning, delivery, and continuous development of an engaging and rigorous German curriculum across all key stages, ensuring that students are inspired to achieve their full potential.
As a subject leader, the Head of German is accountable for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning. This includes monitoring student progress, implementing effective assessment strategies, and using data to inform departmental improvements. They will also be expected to work closely with the subject leaders of French and Spanish within the MFL department.
The Head of German will promote the importance of modern foreign languages within the school community, helping to raise the profile of German through enrichment activities such as trips, our annual German exchange, and cultural events.
Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, as the role includes managing resources, overseeing budgets, and liaising with senior leadership, parents, and external partners where appropriate. The Head of German will also ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and up to date, incorporating contemporary topics and authentic materials to enhance students' cultural understanding and linguistic competence.
