Overview
Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse, and exciting east‑London borough with fantastic facilities for our residents. We are seeking a dedicated Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer to take the lead in shaping sustainable flood resilience for a growing urban borough. In this influential role you will act as the Council’s Lead Local Flood Authority expert, overseeing vital drainage systems, managing flood alleviation schemes, and ensuring robust responses to planning applications. You will work closely with a wide range of internal teams and external partners, from residents and developers to the Environment Agency and Thames Water, while managing a technical team and delivering both strategic and operational improvements. Responsibilities
* Act as the Council’s Lead Local Flood Authority expert and oversee the maintenance and improvement of drainage systems.
* Manage flood alleviation schemes, ensuring they meet regulatory and community needs.
* Lead responses to planning applications that impact flood risk.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including the Environment Agency and Thames Water.
* Manage a technical team, fostering skill development and delivering strategic and operational improvements.
* Support the Council’s commitment to sustainable flood resilience and climate adaptation.
Qualifications
* Qualified civil or drainage engineer with relevant experience.
* Strong knowledge of local flood risk management, drainage design and policy.
* Proven leadership and project management skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
* Commitment to delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based solutions.
