We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls Project Engineer to support ongoing and upcoming UK-based airport projects.
With a growing need for airport electrical engineering expertise in the UK, this role is vital for knowledge development, innovation, and smooth project delivery. The successful candidate will engage in both technical and administrative work across multiple project sites.
This is a hybrid role with required on-site presence during installation and commissioning phases. Ideal for someone structured, analytical, and team-oriented, the role involves methodical planning, clear communication, and a dedication to engineering excellence.
️ Key Responsibilities
You will play a central role in a wide range of automated handling system projects, contributing to both design and execution. Core responsibilities include:
Advising on technical feasibility and compliance during the sales and design phases
Translating high-level functionality into working low-level control (LLC) designs within budget
Creating detailed designs based on system architecture using defined engineering methods
Developing control applications and integrating them into sub-systems (build, configure, program)
Performing pre-commissioning (e.g. I/O checks, cabinet testing) and commissioning (e.g. functionality, capacity tests)
Supporting integration of LLC systems including third-party equipment and SCADA systems
Preparing technical documentation and validation plans (FAT/SAT) aligned with multidisciplinary teams
Executing and supporting on-site and in-house testing
Creating detailed engineering plans and reporting to the project leadership
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency in developing LLC code, particularly in Siemens S7 platforms
Familiarity with SCADA platforms (e.g. WinCC, WebFactory) and safety systems (e.g. Siemens S7-F, PILZ)
Understanding of health and safety risk analysis at both component and system levels
Knowledge of material handling systems, including EM components, cabinets, field wiring, and automated equipment (e.g. DOTM, ICS, ASRS)
Experience with testing strategies and tools (e.g. Jenkins, Quality Center)
Strong grasp of business process automation and industrial communication networks
