1:1 Teaching Assistant - Reception (SEMH Support)

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Wythenshawe is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Reception with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role to start as soon as possible and is being advertised on behalf of the school by our education recruitment agency.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurturing and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting children in the early years and helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally within a mainstream setting.
The Role
Providing consistent 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with SEMH needs
Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement within the classroom
Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school staff
Implementing strategies to support behaviour and learning
Encouraging participation in classroom activities and social interaction
Supporting transitions and maintaining a calm, structured environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with children with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs
A calm, patient and empathetic approach
Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
Experience within EYFS or primary settings is desirable
The ability to remain resilient and adaptable throughout the school day
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
