Join a busy growing main contractor!
My client is a main contractor winning a lot of work across the northwest region. As a buyer, you will have previous experience purchasing construction materials, providing the best quality and price for construction projects. Projects range from £5 million to around £19 million, spanning various mainstream construction sectors including housing, residential, education, commercial, and industrial.
You will be able to manage your workload, prioritize daily tasks, and work best practices in costing and pricing materials for construction projects.
Role Responsibilities
1. Place purchase orders with approved suppliers only, in accordance with budgets & specifications.
2. Save all orders, quotations, etc., on the server in the relevant project folders.
3. Copy all orders sent to suppliers to the site team and project QS.
4. Obtain three quotes for all orders as standard procedure.
5. Query material specifications where applicable, seek cost-effective alternatives, and obtain approval from internal teams and client representatives before placing orders.
6. Liaise with the commercial team regarding spend and value.
7. Communicate with the design team (internal and external) about material matters related to projects.
8. Keep project Requisition Trackers up to date.
9. Attend pre-start project meetings, and issue Procurement and Delivery Schedules for site completion.
10. Manage and update the Procurement Schedule, distributing it to relevant stakeholders.
11. Liaise with the accounts department regarding invoices and supplier disputes.
12. Attend team meetings (on-site and in-office) and report on buying aspects.
13. Collaborate with the estimating department on material enquiries.
14. Maintain and update the supplier database as required.
15. Assist with O&M Manuals towards the end of each project.
16. Promote professionalism within the department, internally and with supply chain partners.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a materials and plant buyer in a similar role.
* Previous experience within the construction sector is essential.
* Strong IT literacy skills.
* Ability to build good relationships with stakeholders.
* Excellent communication and organization skills.
* Attention to detail.
