Position Overview:
Windsor Park Stud, a leading Thoroughbred breeding farm in Cambridge, is seeking a highly experienced and reliable Seasonal Senior Night Foaling Staff Member to join our dedicated team for the upcoming foaling season. This hands-on role involves overseeing the health and safety of mares and newborn foals during overnight hours.
The successful candidate will monitor late-term pregnant mares, assist with foalings, and respond to emergency situations competently and professionally. This senior seasonal role is ideal for someone with proven foaling experience and a strong understanding of neonatal equine care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor heavily pregnant mares throughout the night for signs of labour or distress.
2. Assist with foalings, including emergency deliveries and post-natal care.
3. Administer immediate care to newborn foals (e.g., clearing airways, navel dipping, helping with standing and nursing).
4. Accurately document foaling records and observations, and communicate concerns to veterinary and management teams.
5. Provide emergency care or liaise with on-call veterinarians as needed.
6. Monitor the health and behaviour of mares and foals post-foaling.
7. Maintain clean, safe, and biosecure foaling areas.
8. Supervise and support junior night staff when applicable.
9. Ensure all equipment and foaling kits are properly stocked and maintained.
10. Adhere to Windsor Park Stud’s safety, welfare, and biosecurity protocols.
11. Assist with other farm duties as required by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications:
* Significant experience in foaling down Thoroughbred mares (minimum 2+ seasons preferred).
* Strong knowledge of equine reproduction, foaling procedures, and neonatal care.
* Ability to remain calm and act decisively during emergencies.
* Excellent observation skills and attention to detail.
* Confident handling of mares, foals, and high-value bloodstock.
* Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays during the season.
* Physically fit for outdoor work in all conditions.
* Reliable, responsible, and capable of working independently or as a team leader.
* First aid and basic veterinary knowledge are highly regarded.
Compensation and Benefits:
* Competitive seasonal salary: $23.50 - $27 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
