Why the Capital Markets Graduate Programme?

In Capital Markets the Investment Banking team works with clients to raise capital and manage financial risk, including financial advisory services, identification and origination of market opportunities, research, and economic analysis.


The chance to make an impact

On this programme you’ll develop specialist expertise as a banker across several teams that specialise in different areas – including equity and debt origination, loans, structuring, risk management, leveraged finance and syndication. You’ll gain a unique insight into Barclays’ work from colleagues across the firm and take on your own projects with full support. You’ll start with intensive training focused on developing skills in a particular area.

Purpose of the role

To participate in the day-to-day activities of the capital markets division, providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.


Accountabilities

* Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate findings, and collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for capital markets.
* Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
* Participation in training and development programmes to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, and management of deployment and launch of new products and services for capital markets.
* Management of client relationships and provision of customer service, responding to questions about products and services and processing transactions.
* Development and implementation of financial models and strategies that support decision making in capital markets.
* Training and mentoring of junior colleagues.


Analyst Expectations

* Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard, consistently driving continuous improvement.
* Requires in-depth technical knowledge and experience in the assigned area.
* Thorough understanding of underlying principles within the area of expertise.
* Lead and supervise a team (if applicable) or develop technical expertise as an individual contributor; advise where appropriate.
* Demonstrate leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive (Barclays LEAD: Listen, Energise, Align, Develop).
* Partner with other functions and business areas; manage risk and strengthen controls; ensure work complies with relevant rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
* Maintain understanding of how sub-functions integrate with the broader organisation and products, services, and processes.
* Make evaluative judgments based on factual information and communicate complex/sensitive information effectively.
* Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function and build an external network.
* Escalate breaches of policies appropriately and embed new policies adopted for risk mitigation.
