What's involved with this role: Job Title: Web Content Editor Reference: Kensington and Chelsea 5284134 Salary: £17.73 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution Hours: 36 hours per week Monday-Friday Role length: 3 months opening assignment Job type: Hybrid Location: Kensington and Chelsea Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent The role: The role centres on editing, maintaining and improving the Council’s website, ensuring all content is accurate, accessible and user focused. You’ll proof, update and structure web pages, fix errors, monitor analytics and act quickly on any issues that affect the user experience. You’ll support content owners across the organisation, offering guidance on best practice, accessibility and CMS use, while keeping the site aligned with Council standards and legal requirements. The job also involves logging and escalating technical faults, contributing to digital projects and helping to set up new microsites, all while working closely with the Digital Production Manager to keep the website running smoothly and effectively. Key Responsibilities: Edit, proof and publish website content, ensuring accuracy, clarity and alignment with accessibility standards. Maintain and improve site structure, navigation and usability, keeping content up to date and user focused. Monitor site performance, analytics and user behaviour, taking corrective action where required. Identify, log and escalate bugs or technical issues promptly to minimise impact on users. Support content owners across the Council with guidance, training and best practice. Maintain compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation. Work with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure smooth operation of the website and related platforms. Contribute to digital projects, business cases and planning as required. What the client is looking for: Strong experience in a similar web content role with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Solid understanding of CMS platforms (preferably Drupal), web structures and good web writing practice. Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS and web technologies. Ability to analyse web data and use insights to improve content and user journeys. Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and work autonomously. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical matters in plain English. A collaborative approach, comfortable working across teams and promoting user centred content design. Desirable: Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment. Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA and their practical application. Familiarity with social media content support and intranet platforms.
