Job Title: Geospatial Data Engineer at Forest Research
We are seeking a Geospatial Data Engineer to join the National Forest Inventory (NFI) team within Forest Research. This role involves working on a wide range of geospatial, analytical, and information technology projects, providing ample opportunities for skills development and collaboration with experts across government and the wider research community.
About the NFI Program
The NFI monitors the location, extent, and condition of woodlands across Great Britain through digital mapping, aerial photography, remote sensing, and extensive field surveys. The program supports forestry policy, the timber industry, and biodiversity conservation, providing critical data to decision-makers.
Team and Responsibilities
As part of the Centre for Inventory Forecasting & Operational Support (IFOS), the NFI team manages an integrated spatial platform, including the 'Forester' data collection application and analytical tools. The role involves collaborating with data scientists, analysts, statisticians, and specialists in remote sensing and mapping.
Location and Working Arrangements
This position can be based at the Northern Research Station, Roslin, Midlothian, or Alice Holt, Farnham, Surrey. The role offers blended working options, combining remote work and on-site presence. Please note, the role is UK-based only.
