This is an exciting opportunity for a trainee in adult or paediatric neurology or metabolic medicine, or a doctor hoping to specialise in neurology or an allied specialty, to gain specialist experience in the diagnosis and management of adult and paediatric patients with SMA, other neuromuscular conditions, and mitochondrial disorders. The position is within the Oxford SMA Service and NHS England Highly Specialised Service for Rare Mitochondrial Diseases. Applicants must have GMC registration.

The Oxford Adult and Paediatric Muscle Services and NHS England Highly Specialised Services for Rare Mitochondrial Disorders collaborate closely and have a strong research portfolio with national and international partnerships. Educational opportunities include MDT meetings in muscle radiology, pathology, and genetics. The post is primarily aimed at individuals wishing to develop skills in diagnosing and managing neuromuscular disorders, with research opportunities available.

For specific clinical and research inquiries, please contact:

* Dr Sithara Ramdas (sithara.ramdas@ouh.nhs.uk)
* Dr Victoria Nesbitt (victoria.nesbitt@ouh.nhs.uk)
* Dr Stefen Brady (stefen.brady@ouh.nhs.uk)

Under consultant supervision, the fellow will act as the Oxford SMA Service clinical fellow, working within the Oxford Adult & Paediatric Muscle Services and the NHS England Highly Specialised Services for Rare Mitochondrial Disorders.

The post involves delivering Nusinersen (Spinraza) treatment for both children and adults, coordinating day-case admissions, and liaising with interventional radiology for lumbar punctures. Adult trainees will receive support from paediatric neurology trainees for procedures in children.

Mitochondrial Service

The NHS England Highly Specialised Services for Rare Mitochondrial Disorders is one of three such services in the UK, covering both children and adults. The fellow will attend clinics and MDT meetings.

The Oxford SMA Service is a newly funded NHS England SMA treatment centre, managing both paediatric and adult SMA patients. It includes outpatient clinics, day-case admissions for intrathecal Nusinersen, and MDT meetings led by Dr Brady and Dr Ramdas. The mitochondrial service also offers specialist outpatient clinics and MDT meetings, led by Dr Nesbitt.

For further details or informal visits, contact:

* Dr Sithara Ramdas, Consultant, sithara.ramdas@ouh.nhs.uk
* Dr Stefen Brady, stefen.brady@ouh.nhs.uk
