Reports to: Head of Communications
Location: East Midlands
Politically Restricted Post: Yes
About the role
We’re looking for a talented and creative Communications Officer to help tell the story of the East Midlands and the work of EMCCA.
In this role, you’ll deliver first-class communications to communities across the region, working on high-profile campaigns that bring our priorities, initiatives and news to life. You’ll coordinate and deliver a wide range of communications activity across digital, social, print and traditional media, helping ensure our messages are clear, engaging and impactful.
Working as part of a supportive and ambitious Communications Team, you’ll juggle multiple projects at once, collaborating with colleagues, partners and the media. If you’re passionate about communications, full of ideas, and have a sharp eye for detail and storytelling, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
* Creating compelling communications aligned to EMCCA priorities and the Corporate Plan, translating complex strategies into clear and engaging messages.
* Delivering effective communications campaigns that drive public engagement and support positive behaviour change.
* Producing high-quality content for a range of channels, including websites, social media, email, print, and media releases.
* Supporting media relations activity, including responding to press enquiries, preparing materials, and contributing to media events, launches and interviews.
* Using insight, data and evidence to shape communications activity and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
* Supporting internal communications through creative campaigns and materials that engage staff and align colleagues with EMCCA’s vision.
* Working in partnership with communications teams across local authorities and the wider public sector to deliver coordinated campaigns.
* Acting as a brand champion, ensuring all communications meet EMCCA brand standards.
* Ensuring all activity complies with legal, regulatory and organisational requirements, including local government publicity rules, copyright and data protection.
* Attending out-of-hours events when required.
This role does not have direct line management responsibility.
What we’re looking for
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with experience producing tailored content for web, social media and diverse audiences.
* Proven experience planning, delivering and evaluating marketing or communications campaigns across digital and social channels.
* Media and PR experience, including working with journalists, developing media stories and supporting press activity.
* Strong understanding of social media as an engagement, promotional and advertising channel.
* A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience in photography and basic video production for digital communications.
* Experience working in local government, the public sector or the third sector.
* Strong digital skills, including use of CMS platforms, email marketing tools, design software, digital advertising tools and analytics (e.g. Google Analytics).
* A qualification in marketing, communications, business or a related field.
Our values
We’re a values-led organisation, and how we work matters as much as what we deliver. Our values are:
* Lifting our region – putting wider outcomes first and being a passionate advocate for place and people.
* Working together – building strong relationships, providing constructive challenge and bringing partners together.
* Making an impact – turning ideas into action and delivering real change with limited resources.
* Being human – valuing diverse perspectives and connecting with people in an authentic, inclusive way.
These values shape our culture and guide how we work with each other and our stakeholders.
About EMCCA
