Role Overview
A precision engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to produce high-quality components for the aerospace sector. The role involves setting and operating CNC machines, working to tight tolerances, and ensuring all components meet detailed engineering specifications. The company primarily uses Hurco CNC machines, and full training (one week, off-site in High Wycombe) is available for strong candidates.
Shift & Pay
⦁ Shift: Monday-Thursday, 6:00pm-6:00am
⦁ Breaks: 30-minute lunch + two short breaks
⦁ Pay: Approx. Competitive + night shift premium
⦁ Typical Week: 46 hours including overtime
⦁ Overtime: Available, including Saturday mornings at 1.5x
⦁ Holiday & Sick Pay: Paid at shift premium
Key Responsibilities
Production
⦁ Work to output targets and daily work lists.
⦁ Interpret engineering planning documents, specification sheets, and SOPs.
⦁ Check equipment suitability and report issues before use.
⦁ Confirm prior operations on job cards are signed/stamped before starting.
⦁ Set and operate Hurco CNC machines to manufacture components from various metals.
⦁ Machine and inspect components to tight aerospace tolerances.
⦁ Clean and prepare parts for the next production stage.
⦁ Complete all required operational documentation.
Quality
⦁ Maintain a clean and organised work area.
⦁ Ensure all parts meet drawing/specification requirements and report non-conformances via NCR processes.
Health & Safety
⦁ Work safely at all times and follow company safety procedures.
⦁ Adhere to all PPE requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
⦁ Work with other departments to support efficient production flow.
⦁ Train and support colleagues when required.
⦁ Follow company policies and procedures.
⦁ Escalate issues to line management when needed.
⦁ Participate in meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Duties
⦁ Act as a first aider or fire warden on rotation (training provided).
⦁ Carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
Person Specification
Essential
⦁ Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK.
⦁ Time-served machinist.
⦁ Experience operating CNC machines (Hurco experience preferred but not essential).
⦁ Willingness to undertake one-week Hurco training in High Wycombe if required.
⦁ Strong ability to interpret engineering documents and select appropriate tooling/equipment.
⦁ Good communicator and positive team player.
⦁ Proactive and professional approach with strong problem-solving skills.
⦁ Flexible, including willingness to work overtime or travel if needed.
Desirable
⦁ HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
⦁ Aerospace industry experience.
