Are you an experienced, motivated, and forward‑thinking ODP or Registered Nurse looking for your next challenge? We are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic team within The Christie Theatres, taking on a leadership role in our 8 bed Recovery area.

Our specialist oncology theatre suite provides a unique environment where you will be involved in a wide range of procedures, including Colorectal, Plastic, Urology, and Gynaecology surgery, as well as supporting our highly specialised Brachytherapy department. This is a chance to broaden your expertise while making a real impact on patient outcomes in one of Europe’s leading cancer centres.


Main duties of the job

* Be a registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) with the appropriate qualifications and evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Have a minimum of two years’ experience in Adult Recovery practice.
* Demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Be highly motivated, organised, and proactive, with the ability to work independently when required.
* Bring strong leadership skills, with teaching and assessing experience considered desirable.

You will be contracted to work 37.5 hours per week, across 4 or 5 days, with flexibility required to cover the service over Monday to Saturday. The role also includes participation in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. Job responsibilities


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* To participate as a member of the Anaesthetic/Recovery Theatre team with extensive knowledge in the care of the peri‑operative patient.
* To demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to the development of evidence‑based practice.
* To competently care for the peri‑operative patient including the assessment, planning and evaluation of programmes of care.
* Liase and integrate with the multi‑disciplinary team, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care and promote a team approach to working.
* Develop good working relationships and promote effective communication between all clinical grades of staff within the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Liase with the peri‑operative teams to initiate and participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice and surgical products in the interest of promoting quality care.
* Work with senior colleagues to formulate practice development strategies based on audit findings.
* Encourage and participate in initiatives to enhance quality care.
* The post holder will be proactive towards change and change management.
* To promote and maintain an environment conducive to professional development.
* Take responsibility for your own professional development.
* Participate in the theoretical and practical professional instruction of all learners, trained and untrained, including medical students and other allied medical professions.
* To monitor the progress of learners and in particular their skills in carrying out practical procedures.
* Demonstrate professional accountability.
* Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs and standards of the department.
* Ensure that all prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly and in accordance with Trust policy, including the correct care and custody of controlled drugs.
* Offer help and advice to the patients relatives and friends responding to their individual needs in a caring supportive manner.
* Ensure safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
* Assist in the maintenance of good order and cleanliness of the clinical area, in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Have access to and maintain computerised patient records in accordance with Trust policy.
* Use of the scan track system and track/trace all medical devices used in theatre.
* Demonstrate the mandatory competencies of the Trust, attending all mandatory updates.
* Under direction of a senior colleague work in role of Theatre co‑ordinator.


CLINICAL GOVERNANCE, AUDIT, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

* Work within trust guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
* Utilise incident reporting system and participate in investigation of incidents.
* Assist as required in departmental audit.
* Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
* Participate in the development of the same.
* Continually monitor standards of care and participate in leading the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research.
* Support patient and public involvement activities in the theatre area as appropriate, leading to service improvement.
* Ensure compliance with untoward incident reporting & near misses.
* Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
* Assist the Senior Theatre Sister and manager in the effective use and monitoring of the quality of supplies / equipment.


FINANCE / PHYSICAL RESOURCES

* Comply with best practice in the safe use of equipment by self and other members of the team, i.e. trainees / medical and nursing staff.
* Assist the theatre manager to maintain theatre budgets and assist in cost saving projects.


Registered Nurses /Practitioners in Theatres at The Christie have a responsibility to:

* Maintain Active Status on the MNC / HCPC Register.
* Act always in accordance with NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct and guiding documents.
* Adhere to Trust Policy and Procedure.
* Maintain up to date skills and knowledge and maintain awareness of professional issues.
* Maintain a professional portfolio.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* IST level Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
* Diploma level education in relevant practice.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Anaesthetic Qualification.
* Mentorship qualification ALS or willing to complete.
* Degree in Operating Department Practice.


Experience

* Previous experience in Anaesthetics and Recovery.
* Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills significant.
* Experience in the use medical devices.
* Experience in people management.

* High level of physical skills.
* Dexterity and accuracy when using medical devices and assisting procedures.
