Hours per Week: 37.5 full time

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Health and Safety Advisor to join our Single Corporate Health and Safety Service, supporting both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Promoting a positive health and safety culture across all services and staff groups
* Undertaking health and safety audits, inspections and workplace assessments
* Providing advice and guidance on risk assessments, safe systems of work and legislative compliance
* Supporting managers with accident and incident investigations, and trend analysis to drive learning and improvement
* Assisting with the delivery of health and safety training to a wide range of staff
* Supporting the development and review of health and safety policies, guidance and promotional campaigns
* Maintaining accurate records, reports and databases relating to health and safety activity
* Providing day‑to‑day supervision and support to junior health and safety staff where required

Working as a partnership, both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust have a shared vision for excellence in care for our patients and communities. The single corporate service is delivered across both organisations. Employees may be based at either IWT or PHU and may be required to undertake business travel between sites.

Person Specification
Essential
* Ability to communicate information to individuals, groups, and committees in a comprehensive way.
* Ability to plan and organize basic activities or programmes underpinning relevant H&S topics and legislative requirements.
* Confident in preparing and delivering basic written reports.
* Confident to deliver training, presentations and/or reports to individuals, groups and or committees.
* Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a team with integrity and confidentiality, managing own workload and demands.
* Confident to communicate and share best practice in Health and Safety to multidisciplinary groups and all levels of staff throughout the organisation.
* Ability to handle difficult or complex situations with compassion and sensitivity.
Desirable
* Project management experience.
* Experience of working within a care/healthcare/NHS environment.
Qualifications
Essential
* Specialist qualification in Occupational Health and Safety at Work (e.g., NEBOSH Cert) or significant, demonstrable relevant experience.
Desirable
* Training Qualification. Patient Handling experience/knowledge.
* Moving & Handling trainer's certificate.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
* Knowledge of legislation and regulations relevant to the scope of role.
* Competent in the use of a wide range of software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Risk Management system, SharePoint).
Desirable
* Ability to make sound professional judgement on a broad range of Health and safety issues, with the autonomy to intervene where unsafe practice is identified.
