RPS is seeking Trainee Acoustic Logging Technicians for our United Utilities contract to take acoustic samples which indicate leakage on the water network. Opportunities are available in the North‑West. The project is based from the Warrington office but we are hoping to receive applications from Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop their skills and experience with one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies.
About the Team
The RPS Asset, Surveying and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry‑leading services to the UK water industry. Our employees support water networks, drainage, surveying, leakage consultancy, water resources and efficiency. The team analyses complex data and provides pragmatic solutions, reducing leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities. We assess, diagnose and determine the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage, fully support regulatory targets and pinpoint leakage with a high level of accuracy.
About You
As a key member of the AS&I business, you will deliver great work for clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. Whether you are just starting or progressing, this role offers career growth with RPS. You will need to work flexibly – weekends, evenings and overtime if required – and be willing to travel. Working outdoors in all conditions is essential.
Your Responsibilities
* Locate water main fittings using plans.
* Deploy and retrieve loggers that record acoustic data to help locate leakage.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Enjoy working outdoors (rain or shine).
* Good basic maths and English.
* Basic IT skills.
* Willing to work occasional nights, weekends and overtime.
* Good hearing.
* Tidy and well organised.
* Take pride in your work and care for equipment and tools.
* Enjoy working alone and as part of a team.
Full training will be provided.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
Health and Safety
This role may involve:
* Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers.
* Working in all weather conditions, including night work.
* Working in confined spaces and on highways.
* Mandatory drug and alcohol testing and a DBS check.
