Rotational Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Therapy Team at Hillingdon Hospital. We are seeking a band 6 Rotational Occupational Therapist to join our friendly, integrated inpatient therapy department. As a Rotational Occupational Therapist, you will play an essential part in the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients.

Opportunities will be given to further develop your clinical and non‑clinical skills on rotations by taking an increased complexity and responsibility for caseload, while also supporting junior staff and facilitating student placements. We are looking for clinicians who have a passion and experience of working in an acute, physical health setting.


The 9‑month rotations include:

* Stroke Unit
* Acute Older Adults
* Frailty
* Acute Medical Unit
* Medicine and Surgery

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Clinical

To autonomously complete the OT process with patients including:

* Comprehensive assessment of needs
* Provide individualised and specialised treatments to patients on caseload, which will include a variety of physical, cognitive, and psychological conditions.
* Lead and facilitate the OT process, including assessments and discharges with arranging package of care, providing equipment and community support.

The OT process includes liaising with relatives, care givers and NOKs, providing updates regarding patients progress and discharge plans.

To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions.

To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To assess for patients' equipment needs. Once equipment needs are identified, order equipment in a timely fashion to facilitate discharge. Equipment risk assessments eg bed rail assessments and manual handling risk assessments are to be completed where appropriate to ensure patient safety.

Provide document interventions accurately and within guidelines. Provide timely and accurate documentation to facilitate a smooth transfer of care to the community.

Monitor, evaluate and modify interventions for patients to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of therapy. Use agreed outcome measures to document the effectiveness.

Person Specification


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Member of BAOT
* Membership of special section


EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE

* Extensive post‑registration experience of O.T. including specific and significant experience in the clinical area
* Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Understanding of standardised assessments and outcome measures and their use.
* Experience of research and audit
* Experience or knowledge of Social Care setting and knowledge of major adaptations
* Supervisory experience in working with support staff and/or students
* Fieldwork Educator's Course


SKILLS and ABILITIES

* Knowledge of current best practice in OT
* Application of the OT process within an acute setting
* Effective written and oral communication skills
* Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate OT programmes to address people’s complex and changing health and social well‑being needs
* Ability to identify and implement patient goals.
* Enthusiasm for, and evidence of, working within an MDT team
* Ability to assess for and prescribe wheelchairs and cushions
* Ability to advise on equipment and adaptations, with an understanding of the role of Social Care
* Ability to manage own caseload and identify priorities.
* Computer Literacy sufficient to perform this role.
* Ability to work with statutory or voluntary agencies
* Neurological handling skills
* Experience in running group programmes.
* Ability to apply cognitive behavioural approach to a physical setting
* Training, presentation and facilitation skills.
