Job overview
Provide assessment and psychiatric treatment for older adults within the Fenland community across a largely rural area.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
* Lead multidisciplinary team providing psychiatric care
* Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans
* Lead weekly MDT meetings and ensure prompt reviews of acutely unwell patients
* Work closely with CRHTT OP, community teams and liaison services as patients move between teams
* Deliver evidence‑based treatments
* Maintain accurate clinical records using EPR and SystmOne
* Provide cross‑cover for consultant colleagues during annual and study leave
Leadership
* Provide clinical leadership for Older People Services during a period of transition
* Participate in regional and national groups as approved by the Medical Director
Teaching/Education
* Contribute to the psychiatry postgraduate teaching programme and undergraduate teaching
* Support training and development of staff within the wider MDT
* Participate in continuing medical education activities
* Mentor new consultants and provide peer support
* Engage in CPD and use study leave budget for external CPD activities
Administration
* Work with CPFT to achieve agreed performance targets
* Collect and monitor clinical outcome data for service development and commissioning
* Participate in audits and patient information system administration
* Operate within Trust and service policies and guidelines
Management
* Collaborate with Service Manager and Clinical Director on management of Older People’s Acute Care System
* Contribute to planning and development of older people’s mental health services
* Attend relevant service meetings
Research
* Support CPFT research endeavours; potential funding for pursuing research interests
* Possibility to act as principal investigator in clinical trials on dementia and late‑life mental health disorders
Clinical Governance
* Follow local and national protocols and actively participate in clinical governance
On‑call
* May opt to take part in consultant out‑of‑hours rota (~1:25 Category A)
* On‑call coverage for old age and general adult, remunerated at 3%
Other duties
* Carry out additional duties assigned by the Trust as agreed
Accountability
* Accountable to the Clinical Director and, via the Trust Board, to the Executive Medical Director
Job Planning & Appraisal
* Participate in Revalidation and annual appraisal under supervision of the Medical Director and Responsible Officer
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
* S12/AC approved
* CCT in relevant specialty (CESR or equivalent considered)
* Valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive
* MD or PhD
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education (preferred)
Experience
* Experience working in a community‑facing team
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Old Age Psychiatry
* Experience in research and service development
Characteristics
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team
* Understanding of service context within NHS developments and experience in service development under budget constraints
* Effective teachers and trainers capable of guiding own continuing education and training
