LAS ST3+ Ophthalmology at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Fixed term post from 8th December 2025 to 21st June 2026.
Job Summary
The post will support the team consisting of Consultant, Speciality Doctors, and Trainees in the Ophthalmology Team. The successful candidate will complement SAS doctors and will be expected to play an active role in the delivery of service.
They should be competent in ophthalmology clinics such as laser, injections, eye casualty, general clinics. Theatre training will emphasise managing both simple and complex cases, laser, and surgical management options. Good knowledge of general ophthalmology and management of acute ophthalmic conditions is required.
The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop experience in managing ophthalmology patients.
Responsibilities
* Participate in operating lists
* Out‑patient clinics
* Carry out administration related to these activities
* Participate in all ongoing activities of the department including audit, research projects, departmental meetings and teaching sessions
* Observe the Trust’s agreed guidelines and procedures on clinical matters and follow the local and national employment Human Resources Policies and Procedures
* Ensure adequate arrangements for two‑way communication between hospital staff involved in the care of the post‑holder’s patients when necessary
* Contribute and participate in the Head and Neck Directorate’s clinical audit and annual appraisal programmes
* Participate in the on‑call rota across BLMK (Bedford, Luton & Milton Keynes)

This post is non‑residential, but accommodation is subject to availability, for which there will be a charge.
Supervision & Teaching
The successful candidate will be responsible to, and work under the supervision of the five Consultant Ophthalmologists. The post will provide extensive experience in the management of general ophthalmic problems. The ideal candidate will have some experience in the management of general ophthalmic problems. They will be expected to actively participate in all audit projects within the department and will participate in evening clinics with booked urgent patients.
He/she will also be involved in the supervision and training of junior doctors and Medical Students within the hospital, with a regular Medical Student Teaching commitment and an interest in undergraduate teaching.
