Overview

Training Programme Director for Rheumatology for KSS. This is a 1PA Training Programme Director vacancy. The role is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England mandate. The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School and focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, with a focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links. To support the Postgraduate Dean, Training Programme Directors will work across health and social care contexts within a team to reflect changing service models and deliver an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.


Main duties of the job

The Programme Director will ensure that national standards, as determined by the faculty, and guidelines and standards established within KSS are met. Responsibilities include:

* Oversee the Rheumatology Regional Training Programme
* Address specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns
* Recruitment to training posts and programmes
* Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, out-of-programme management, trainee management careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and related workstreams

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Rheumatology training across the region, and will have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of a multi-professional team.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

If you are successful at interview, we will run an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) in the Electronic Staff Record system (ESR). This transfer collects information from a previous or current NHS employer to support onboarding, including statutory and mandatory competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You will have the opportunity to express consent or non-consent during the recruitment process.


Job responsibilities

Please note: The post is offered on a secondment basis and candidates must secure written agreement from their Trust/Practice for release from clinical work for the specified number of PAs/sessions. In line with sessional TPD payments, NHSE provides an employer contribution of £10k per 1PA per annum. The appointment length is initially until 30 September 2026. Person Specification


Qualifications

* Fellowship of a College/Faculty, professional association and/or body
* Attendance at courses supporting educational development
* Qualification such as PG Cert, Diploma or Master of Medical Education

Employment/Experience

* Experience working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
* Experience in clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
* Track record of delivering service and education
* Understanding of developments involving relevant Colleges/Faculties and NHS organisations
* Understanding of workforce transformation agenda
* Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and equality & diversity in the last 3 years
* Active involvement in and up-to-date with appraisal processes
* Knowledge of the NHS structures, processes and workforce matters
* Doctors require a licence to practice
* Previous or current leadership role in healthcare education
* Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education
* Understanding of current health, social care and education policy

Depending on experience, in line with TPD sessional payments.
