Department: Business Development - Casualty Location: Manchester, UK Role: Business Development Executive The Department The global Business Development (BD) function works in alignment with the firm’s strategy, as set by the Global Strategy Board and regional leadership teams. Our BD teams comprise specialists in client development, business development, and communications, led by regional heads who work closely with regional boards across Asia Pacific, Middle East Africa, North America, UK, and Europe. Our strategy is focused on deepening relationships with key clients, developing opportunities in priority sectors, and supporting our lawyers through insight-led, proactive business development initiatives. We aim to position our BD professionals as trusted advisers to the business, supported by collaborative, expert execution teams. The Team This role sits within the UK Casualty BD team, part of the wider Global Insurance Practice Group. The team works closely with partners and fee earners to identify and convert client opportunities, strengthen relationships, and drive revenue growth across the Casualty business. Collaboration with our Marketing colleagues and other BD teams across the UK is central to ensuring consistent market positioning, client engagement, and sharing of best practice. The Role The Business Development Executive will provide proactive support to senior stakeholders across the UK Casualty business, working closely with the BD Manager to deliver high-impact business development initiatives. The role will focus on coordinating and supporting client engagement activities including events, thought leadership campaigns, and multi-channel content. Collaboration with partners, fee earners, marketing colleagues, and BD teams, the Executive will also help develop compelling client-facing materials and support the creation of bespoke pitches and proposals. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to business-critical projects and gain valuable exposure across the firm. While not a pitch-heavy position, it will involve working on strategically important initiatives where creativity, commercial understanding, and relationship-building are key. The role would suit someone who takes an 'outside-the-box' approach to problem-solving and is motivated by finding innovative ways to deliver value to clients and partners. Key Responsibilities Thought Leadership & Content Strategy Support the BD Manager in coordinating and delivering the thought leadership programme across the UK Casualty business. Assist in gathering input from partners, fee earners, and key content contributors to help identify relevant themes and topics aligned with client priorities, market trends, and firm strategy. Help develop and coordinate the production of engaging content — such as articles, reports, podcasts, videos, webinars, and other digital materials — that showcase the firm’s expertise and market insights. Work closely with the Marketing team to support the distribution of content across multiple channels, including digital, social media, events, and direct client engagement. Maintain oversight of the content pipeline, ensuring deadlines are met and outputs are consistent in quality, tone, and messaging. Assist in monitoring analytics and gathering feedback to assess the performance and impact of thought leadership initiatives, supporting continuous improvement and stronger client engagement. Events & Client Engagement Support the planning and delivery of the Casualty team’s events programme, including conferences, seminars, roundtables, and client receptions. Work closely with the BD Manager and Marketing colleagues to deliver both large-scale and smaller targeted events from concept through to execution. Take responsibility for logistical coordination - including venue liaison, invitations, delegate management, and on-site support - ensuring events are delivered to the highest standard. Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to shape event agendas, secure speakers, and develop engaging content that reinforces the firm’s expertise and market position. Support the delivery of events across both Manchester and London offices, with travel required between locations as part of the role. Evaluate event effectiveness and client engagement outcomes, producing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, providing strategic support and creative solutions to help them engage clients and showcase expertise. Act as a central point of coordination for thought leadership and event activity, fostering collaboration across departments to share best practice and amplify successful initiatives. Work with the BD Manager and wider team to ensure thought leadership and event programmes integrate seamlessly with broader business development and client engagement strategies. Data, Research & Insights Conduct market, client, and competitor research to support business development planning and identify new opportunities for client growth and cross-selling. Maintain accurate and up-to-date data on client activity, pursuits, and pipeline opportunities within the firm’s CRM and reporting systems. Track and analyse BD initiatives, client interactions, and pipeline performance to measure progress against objectives and identify areas for improvement. Produce regular reports and insight summaries for the BD Manager and partners, highlighting key trends, business opportunities, and engagement outcomes. Support the BD Manager in developing evidence-based recommendations to strengthen client relationships, enhance ROI, and drive overall BD effectiveness. Directories, Awards & Marketing Collateral Assist with submissions for legal directories and awards in collaboration with partners and marketing colleagues. Support updates to marketing collateral, website content, brochures, and digital assets. Maintain consistent tone, messaging, and brand presentation across all client-facing materials. Essential Skills & Experience At least one year’s experience in business development or client development within a professional services environment. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional and confident approach. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work proactively and independently. Experience in supporting partners or senior stakeholders, ideally within a matrixed or global organisation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience using CRM systems. A collaborative team player with the ability to build relationships across business units and functions. Commercially aware, client-focused, and motivated by achieving results.
