Job Description
If you’re looking for a senior operational role where your decisions genuinely shape the business, this is a rare opportunity to join a respected, long-established Scottish civil engineering contractor entering its next phase of development.
With roots tracing back over 60 years, the company has quietly grown from a small family-run operation to a trusted delivery partner for civil engineering works across Ayrshire & Scotland. Their success has come through reputation, reliability, and long-term relationships—not aggressive growth targets. Projects typically range from £200k–£300k and span general roads, bridges, culverts, barriers, and traffic management.
Now, as the current leadership team begins planning for the future, they’re seeking a Senior Construction Manager / Operations Manager / General Manager, to take a lead in operations and bring fresh ideas to improve efficiency, consistency, and profitability across their works portfolio.
The role will need you to;
* Lead all project delivery, ensuring safety, quality, and programme compliance across multiple concurrent sites.
* Work closely with clients, sub-contractors, and internal teams, maintaining the strong reputation built over decades.
* Drive continuous improvement across operations, identifying ways to streamline delivery and increase commercial performance.
* Support and mentor contract managers and site teams, helping develop capability and confidence across the business.
* Represent the company with professionalism and integrity in all external dealings.
Your background;
* A proven track record in civil engineering—ideally with experience in highways, local authority, or infrastructure works.
* Hands-on management skills suited to a fast-paced, small-company environment where adaptability counts.
* Technical or academic qualifications (Degree/HND in Civil Engineering or similar).
* Strong leadership, communication, and commercial awareness.
This role suits someone who enjoys variety, accountability, and visible impact—rather than layers of corporate structure. You’ll join a close-knit team where your ideas are heard and where excellence and reliability are valued above volume growth.
If you’d like to lead the operational future of a well-respected Scottish civil engineering business, we’d love to hear from you.
