About the role
Do you have excellent customer service skills and are passionate about providing vital library services to those in healthcare and academic environments? The Bodleian Health Care Libraries is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support staff and students at the University of Oxford and the NHS. Our libraries are located at three sites in Headington: The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Old Road Campus Research Building, and The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, as well as a library in Banbury at Horton Hospital.
The main users are staff and students from the University of Oxford’s Department of Medical Sciences, including Clinical Medical Students and NHS staff within the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will work at the front desk, supporting readers by finding articles, registering readers, answering queries, assisting with room bookings, and providing excellent customer service. This is a fixed-term, part-time position until 31st March 2027, with working hours as follows:
* Monday & Tuesday: 9.40am to 2pm
* Wednesday: 1pm to 6.05pm
* Thursday & Friday: 1pm to 5.05pm
Remote working is not available due to the nature of the role.
About You
You should have good spoken and written English, be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, and be confident using IT applications including Microsoft Office. Effective communication, reliability, punctuality, task prioritization, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential. You should be able to work under pressure and carry out routine tasks accurately.
