Overview of the Role
Mott MacDonald has a strong track record in providing flood risk services to clients worldwide. As a Senior Flood Risk Engineer you will model, design and deliver flood resilience schemes, conduct flood risk assessments, and support nature‑based solutions. You will work alongside dam engineers to conduct reservoir flood studies and help clients manage flood risks from scoping to delivery.
Examples of Your Contributions
* Undertake and check economic appraisals to assist the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments and conduct reservoir flood studies
* Prepare business cases to secure funding for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Grants in aid
* Conceptualise and scope hydraulic modelling approaches
* Produce and check high quality reports for clients
* Mentor/training junior staff in the overall process of helping clients manage and adapt to flooding, from scoping to delivery, and providing guidance on programme, consenting, construction and maintenance
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Experience delivering flood risk management studies, including option appraisals in compliance with English Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Appraisal Guidance
* Experience preparing business cases
* Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, economics, mathematics, civil engineering or related discipline
* Good communication and written skills
* Well organised with ability to prioritise own workload with minimal supervision
* Understanding of prioritising health, safety and environmental issues
Desirable
* Chartered or Incorporated with an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA)
* Project management experience
* Engineering design experience
* Professional consultancy experience in flood risk management
