Role: Creative Arts/Play Therapist or Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist
Organisation: The Windmill Trust (Registered Charity No. 1195160)
Location: West Cumbria (Workington/Wigton area)
Hours: 15-30 hours per week (job share considered)
About the Role
The Windmill Trust is seeking a thoughtful, skilled and compassionate therapist to join our small, specialist team, working with children and young people experiencing complex emotional needs.
We provide long-term, trauma-informed creative therapies for children who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences, attachment disruption, loss, neglect or overwhelming life events. Many of the children we support struggle to access mainstream services. Our role is to offer a safe, consistent therapeutic space centred on the child’s voice, pace and developmental needs.
This is a rare opportunity to practise in a relational model that prioritises depth of work over high-volume, time-limited interventions. Therapists work systemically with families, carers and professional networks to support lasting emotional change.
* Master’s level qualification in Play Therapy, Arts Therapy or Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy (or equivalent)
* Registration with BAPT (Full Member preferred), HCPC, UKCP or equivalent professional body
* Experience of therapeutic work with children and young people
* Knowledge of attachment-informed and trauma-sensitive practice
* Ability to work collaboratively with families and multi-agency networks
* Experience of complex developmental trauma
* Group therapy experience
The role involves delivering individual and group therapy to children aged 4-18 (up to 25 if care experienced), undertaking assessments and reports, supporting parents and carers, and contributing to reflective team practice and service development.
We welcome applications from Play Therapists, Art Therapists, Dramatherapists, Music Therapists, Dance and Movement Therapists or Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists working in an attachment-based, creative and non-directive way. Newly qualified therapists with strong relevant placements are also encouraged to apply.
Based in West Cumbria, the role offers coastal living alongside easy access to the Lake District National Park and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in an area of genuine unmet need.
