The successful applicant will be working in the Cardiff and Vale Orthopaedic centre, managing the perioperative care of elective orthopaedic patients. This is a high turnover elective unit with ring fenced beds. The successful applicant will be involved in the care of complex patients with multiple comorbidities as well as complex day case procedures such as TKRs which require careful perioperative management in order to allow same day discharge. They will be expected to work in close cooperation with nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and anaesthetists. They will work under the supervision of both Orthopaedic and Orthogeriatric consultants. They will also be expected to make themselves available for cross cover of the trauma wards at UHL which care for patients requiring longer term rehabilitation prior to discharge. There will be some opportunities to attend elective theatre and clinic. In addition, they will have a supporting role for the F2 doctors in the department, being a source of advice, especially at changeover time, and coordinating communication within the department.
