Due to growth and new business, The Cake Crew is seeking a Senior Specifications Technologist to join their expanding technical team. This is a hybrid role with an option to work up to 3 days on-site and two days from home following a probationary/training period, or totally site-based if preferred.
The role involves completing retailer, customer, and own brand specifications, including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi, Morrisons, ASDA, Lidl, Premier (Hamilton Grant), The Cake Crew, and others as required. Managing and administering retailer systems and supporting team members are also key responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be well-organized, proactive, and able to meet tight deadlines while working both independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal teams, retailers, and third parties are essential. Full IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Office, is required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Writing and completing specifications for finished products for various retailers and brands.
2. Supplier specification approval and onboarding.
3. Understanding primary account requirements, including retailer/customer standards and codes of practice.
4. Supporting other accounts and handling increased workload as needed.
5. Managing critical path tasks for primary accounts.
6. Ensuring specifications meet high standards, accuracy, and KPIs.
7. Managing retailer systems, including specification and artwork systems, and communicating notifications internally.
8. Generating pack copies for own brand specifications, including legal and sub-names.
9. Reviewing and approving artwork, liaising with third parties, retailers, and print houses.
10. Supporting NPD with nutritional calculations and submission forms.
11. Cross-checking factory paperwork, recipes, and specifications for accuracy.
12. Performing specification cross-checks before submissions.
13. Reviewing and approving product photos and information on Brandbank before launch.
14. Participating in pre- and post-launch reviews.
15. Understanding Brexit requirements and calculating related codes.
16. Attending relevant meetings and supporting additional projects.
17. Supporting raw material specification and approval processes.
18. Understanding BRC and retailer audit requirements.
19. Staying informed about relevant legislation and regulations.
20. Completing internal audits and other business requirements.
21. Training and developing other specification writers as needed.
