Logistics Technician
As a Logistics Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining a national fleet of specialist vehicles and equipment, supporting the Ambulance Service across the United Kingdom. The position involves substantial driving responsibilities, including operating vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and facilitating the movement of logistics and equipment to locations nationwide. You will be required to travel regularly, often staying away from home for several nights each month, ensuring the safe delivery and readiness of critical assets. This dynamic role demands flexibility, a commitment to high standards, and the ability to coordinate logistics in support of national emergencies and operational needs.
Responsibilities
* Vehicle safety checks and managing vehicle maintenance programmes.
* Inspecting and maintaining safety critical equipment.
* Providing logistics advice to various Technical User Groups.
* Supporting the drafting and updating Equipment Data Sheets.
* Facilitating the movement of logistics to locations throughout the United Kingdom.
* Managing the cleaning and decontamination of equipment.
* Updating and monitoring equipment inventories and an asset register.
* Nationally coordinating the availability of key logistics across the country.
* Support procurement processes and technical evaluations of new equipment.
* Supporting the response to national emergencies.
* Provide advice and support to local Trusts on the management of specialist logistics.

The unit supports NHS Trusts and partner agencies to provide an effective response to the major and complex incidents defined within the UK’s National Risk Register. The NHS ECU is the national centre of excellence for emergency preparedness, resilience, and response across England’s ambulance services. Hosted by the London Ambulance Service and commissioned by NHS England, we are dedicated to ensuring that the NHS is ready to respond to the most complex, high‑risk, and challenging incidents—whenever and wherever they occur. Formerly known as the National Ambulance Resilience Unit (NARU), the NHS ECU builds on over a decade of operational expertise, clinical leadership, and innovation.
