DWF is recruiting a new Data Protection Officer to join the Risk & Legal Team. You will lead and manage the internal Data Protection team, with the existing Data Protection Manager reporting to you. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will ensure that DWF complies with all relevant global data protection laws and regulations, including but not limited to the EU, UK, and USA. You will also oversee compliance across all local jurisdictions where DWF operates or may operate in the future, or where Personal Data may be transferred internationally.
We are very open to flexible working arrangements for this role and will adopt a hybrid approach, working from any of our UK office locations.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the Data Protection Manager, Group Legal, Risk and Excellence, and the Information Security teams to develop and monitor policies and standards aligned with applicable data protection laws.
* Develop and communicate a comprehensive strategy that supports the organisation's goals and market demands.
* Advise senior stakeholders on emerging privacy laws and risks, leading on implementation aspects.
* Guide the deployment of new technologies and processes, reviewing projects and data to ensure compliance with local and international data privacy laws, and conduct privacy impact assessments when necessary.
* Support the firm’s internal governance and accountability obligations under the EU and UK GDPR.
What will help you succeed in this role?
* Experience with UK and/or international data privacy laws, including EU and US regulations.
* Strong background in compliance, legal, audit, and risk functions, with recent privacy compliance experience.
* Experience in policy development and compliance training.
* Deep knowledge of EU and UK data privacy laws and understanding of other major privacy frameworks worldwide.
* Sufficient understanding of information technology and data management systems.
* Ability to manage large, long-term projects, develop alternative solutions, and implement them.
* Must register as the Data Protection Officer with the UK Information Commissioner for all UK entities.
* Ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and influence change.
* Excellent writing and presentation skills.
* Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
