A well-established regional civil engineering and groundworks contractor, specialising in residential housing infrastructure and associated civils works, is seeking an experienced Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to support a live new-build housing scheme in Bristol.
The business delivers high-quality groundwork and civil engineering packages for major housebuilders and developers across the South West and prides itself on precision, programme delivery and strong on-site collaboration.
The Role
You will be responsible for providing full engineering support on a busy residential development, ensuring works are delivered accurately, safely and in line with programme requirements.
Key duties will include:
Setting out for foundations, drainage, roads, services and plot works
Checking line, level and alignment of works carried out by groundworks teams
Interpreting and working from construction drawings and specifications
Managing day-to-day setting out using Trimble GPS and Total Station equipment
Producing and maintaining accurate site records and as-built information
Liaising with Site Management, subcontractors and technical teams
Identifying and resolving engineering or technical issues on site
Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with health & safety requirements
This is a hands-on, site-based role, ideal for an engineer with strong residential experience who can hit the ground running.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Proven experience as a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer on residential projects
Strong background in housing groundworks and infrastructure
Competent using Trimble GPS / Total Station equipment
Valid CSCS card
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Able to work independently and manage own workload on site
Desirable:
Experience working for a groundworks or civils contractor
Familiarity with QA documentation and as-built records
Good communication skills when working with site teams and management
