Classic Car Mechanic – Alton, Hampshire
1. Salary: £35,000 – £41,600 DOE
2. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (with 30-minute lunch breaks)
Are you a passionate and experienced classic car specialist seeking a rewarding role with a renowned restoration team? We are working with a long-established and highly reputable motor trade restoration specialist based in Alton, Hampshire. Celebrating over 30 years of excellence, they are famous worldwide for restoring some of Britain’s most iconic vintage and classic vehicles.
About the Role:
This is a key position within a dedicated workshop team responsible for the mechanical restoration of classic cars. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of hands-on experience working as a classic car mechanic, with particular expertise in engine building, gearboxes, and car tuning. Your skills will support the meticulous restoration and maintenance of prestigious vehicles, including brands like Jaguar, Austin Healey, Triumph, Daimler, and Aston Martin.
Key Responsibilities:
3. Conduct detailed inspections and assessments of vintage vehicles to diagnose mechanical issues.
4. Perform engine rebuilds, tuning, and fault diagnosis with precision.
5. Recondition, repair, and replace mechanical components to restore vehicles to pristine condition.
6. Support gearbox overhauls and engine tuning efforts, ensuring top performance.
7. Carry out routine maintenance, MOT preparation, and electrical/mechanical repairs.
8. Collaborate with the team to support restoration projects from start to finish.
9. Maintain detailed records of work performed and parts used.
10. Communicate effectively with clients regarding job progress and recommendations.
11. Uphold the highest standards of workshop organisation and safety.
Qualifications & Skills:
12. Minimum of 10 years’ experience working with classic vehicles—engine building, gearboxes, and tuning are highly valued.
13. Full UK driving license.
14. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or similar qualification.
15. Good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in vintage cars.
16. Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
17. Strong team player with positive attitude and good communication skills.
18. Ability to work efficiently and reliably under pressure.
