What You Will Be Working On a Finance Assistant

You'll join our Finance team to focus broadly on 2 key areas: maintaining accurate trial balances across multiple group companies that supports the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly management accounts. Additionally, overseeing the day-to-day transactional finance side of the business.

The role covers purchase ledger, bookkeeping, control account reconciliations, invoicing, reporting and operational support.

What Your Typical Day-to-day Will Look Like

A typical day in this role will vary depending on where you are in the week, month, or quarter, as the team operates to a structured financial calendar that shapes priorities throughout. At any given time, you'll be supporting the Finance Manager across a broad range of responsibilities, which means no two days will look exactly the same and a degree of context switching across different areas of the business is very much part of the role.

On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to be working through bookkeeping tasks across multiple bank accounts, running bank reconciliations, and keeping the purchase ledger up to date. A key part of the role will be to understand and cover a sales order import process through established system processes and sending out regular reports such as the daily bank position report. When issues or exceptions arise during imports, you'll be expected to investigate and resolve these, working across internal and bespoke systems to keep things running smoothly.

As the week and month progress, focus shifts towards more cyclical tasks. Payment runs need to be prepared and processed, sales invoices raised accurately and on time, and monthly invoicing cycles managed to ensure revenue data aligns with what's coming through from operational systems. Towards month-end, the pace picks up as you support the Finance Manager with trial balance preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and the broader management accounts process.

Beyond the core numbers, the role also touches other parts of the business. You may be asked to provide cover for finance related customer support, helping to investigate and resolve finance-related queries and tickets. There's also a project and improvement dimension, supporting the Finance Manager with finance initiatives, documenting processes, and contributing to the development of a more tech-enabled finance function. It's a varied, hands-on role that suits someone comfortable moving between detail-oriented tasks and broader business support.

What You'll Bring With You

A methodical and organised approach to your work
Strong attention to detail
Comfort working at pace and switching between routine & ad-hoc tasks
A curiosity for systems, data and how the two fit together
Willingness to support cross functional teams and colleagues when required

What Experience You Will Have

You should be able to demonstrate at least 12 months experience working in a comparable finance role.

You will be skilled in the following core areas: purchase ledger, bookkeeping, reconciliations, trial balance, transactions (high volume) & use of excel.

It would be great, but not essential to be skilled in the following areas: month end close, multi-entity accounting, process improvement and automation.

To show you've read this posting carefully, please include when asked, the word guitar in your application.

The interview process

Our interview process involves the following stages:

Application (see below)
A short call with one of our team
A competency interview, to assess your ability to fulfil the requirements of the role - as part of this interview stage you will be asked to conduct a financial task-based assessment, which will be explained to you prior to the interview.
A culture-based interview, to assess your compatibility with our team and outlook
