The University of Northampton is seeking an inspirational lecturer to join an active and collegiate team, with a culture of student‑focused teaching and high impact research.
The successful applicant will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning in the Sport & Exercise subject area. The role requires expertise and experience in sport coaching science, strength and conditioning, performance analysis (including proficiency with appropriate software), skill acquisition and motor control, and/or sport psychology. Applications from individuals with an interest in talent identification, long‑term athlete development, performance coaching, working with multidisciplinary sport coaching teams, and/or coach development pathways will be welcomed.
As an academic, you will also be expected to contribute to the research and scholarly output of the subject area and work collegially with other researchers within the Faculty and wider University. Research and scholarship are supported through research centres, a mentor scheme, and twenty‑five days leave for scholarly activity.
You will be expected to carry out teaching duties appropriate to the session type, meetings with staff and students, and personal tutor support where required. A flexible work schedule is available under Smarter Working but there is an expectation for on‑campus presence at various times.
Responsibilities
* Design, deliver and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in sport coaching and performance analysis.
* Lead modules and programmes within the higher education setting and provide digital learning support.
* Conduct research and scholarly activity in sport coaching science, performance analysis, motor control, or sport psychology.
* Publish research, apply for grants, and/or generate commercial income to support the subject area.
* Engage with multidisciplinary sport coaching teams and contribute to coach development pathways.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject.
* Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
* Professional recognition as an HEA Fellow (D2) or a teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale.
* Doctorate in a relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion.
* Professional body qualification in sport coaching.
* Proficiency in performance analysis software, e.g. SportsCode, NacSport.
* Experience in delivery of high‑quality teaching and assessment materials.
* ICT literate and experienced in leading modules and programmes.
* Track record of partnership working to develop scholarship and employability opportunities in community and performance sport settings.
About You
Solid background in sport coaching science and performance analysis, with experience in high‑quality teaching and assessment materials. A PhD qualification (or close to completion) is desirable. You are a team player, disciplined, organised, supportive, and able to work collegially within a team.
Additional desirable attributes: a proven record of research publications, successful grant applications, and/or generating commercial income. You embody the university’s values of sustainability, trust, aspiration, and inclusivity.
