Role Purpose:
1. To be responsible for pricing tender opportunities by implementing estimating strategies on each bid.
2. Lead the bid process to ensure that tender deliverables are produced in a timely and effective manner
3. Lead an Estimating team, including managing the workload and allocation of estimating resource within assigned bid teams.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will have the following accountabilities;
4. Review customers drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment
5. Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty procedures, including pre-construction gate process
6. Review tender documents and submission requirements, ensuring all financial information is identified and provided and accurate compliant design proposals are included
7. Agree with engineering and planning key methods, outputs and plant selection
8. Manage and coordinate the preparation of preliminary and general expense pricing, including plant schedules and risk assessment
9. Prepare tender settlement papers and carry out any belated adjustments as a result of tender settlements
10. Provide bills of allowances as part of the commercial handover meeting
11. Responsibility for sign off of all cost elements prior to any gate meetings or financial submissions
12. Select suitable sub-contractors and specialists for each project
13. Ensure that key specialists are utilised on each bid to optimise: design, specification, programme and value
14. Manage the production of cost information and tender submissions for senior management
15. Provide considered responses to customer questions including post tender queries
16. Ensure that the project commercial team have received an effective handover of bid documentation
17. Manage customer contact, present tender proposals to customers and contribute to customer meetings during the tender process
18. Seek to understand, lead the development of and implement the appropriate digital toolsets to execute cost take-off and other estimating activities, such as 5D cost planning
19. Attend or carry out periodic Tender Health Checks and formal risk reviews to ensure that the identified risks are mitigated as far as possible in tender submissions
20. Ensure that cost planning and estimating are accurate and reflect the project requirements and risk profile
21. Provide mentoring on bids to Estimators and the bid teams, including commercial and technical advice
22. Maintain the company supply chain database/Estimating System with tender information from allocated bids
Who we're looking for
Qualities and experience:
23. Detailed knowledge of high integrity pipework systems & knowledge of Exotic pipework materials
24. Experience of tendering projects in the Petro chemical, nuclear or regulated environments
25. Undertaking of NAECI Labour agreements
26. Experience of pricing and developing customer MTOs
27. Previous experience of managing the process of estimating projects, within the construction industry is required along with a valid CSCS card.
28. Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification is desirable, such as RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSE.
29. Working knowledge of best practice solutions and optimisation of innovative ideas and an understanding of the principles of Lean Construction and 5D cost planning is desirable.
30. An understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports from them is desirable.
31. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
32. Experience of leading a team is desirable.
33. A desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the business is required. Proficiency in IT, numeracy and MS Office Basic & Estimating Systems is essential.
