3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• An experienced Travel Plan Consultant is required on a part-time, interim basis (1 day per week) to develop and implement a new, financially sustainable travel planning system.
• This is an exciting opportunity to lead the creation of a cost-neutral Travel Plan process that supports sustainable transport across schools, new developments, employment centres, and healthcare facilities.
• The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading a team to deliver these services, with the goal of making the programme financially self-sufficient and delivering long-term positive impact across the region.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Design and implement a cost-neutral Travel Plan framework for various sectors including education, health, and commercial developments.
• Develop a robust process that is scalable and financially sustainable.
• Recruit, manage, and lead a small operational team.
• Engage with stakeholders across local authorities, education, healthcare, and private sectors.
• Monitor progress and outcomes, adjusting the strategy to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
• Promote active and sustainable travel options to reduce congestion and improve environmental outcomes.
• Provide clear documentation and reporting to track project milestones and benefits.
• Ensure compliance with relevant transport and planning policies.
Skills/Experience:
• Proven experience in developing and delivering successful Travel Plans across multiple sectors.
• Strong background in sustainable transport, transport planning, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to design and lead self-sustaining programmes or initiatives.
• Experience with stakeholder engagement, particularly within local government or public sector environments.
• Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
• Knowledge of current UK transport policy and planning frameworks.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Relevant qualifications in transport planning, urban planning, environmental studies, or a related field (desirable).
