Clinical Trials Assistant
Join to apply for the Clinical Trials Assistant role at NHS. This position is offered as two part‑time contracts totaling 1.0 WTE (37.5 hours). The working arrangement can be split between two posts (e.g., 0.43 WTE each, 0.5 WTE each, or a mixture) to suit the successful candidates.
We are looking to appoint two individuals to support the lung research delivery team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on a part‑time contract to assist with clinical trial administrative tasks, including trial hosting activities, site file management and archiving. Prior experience in clinical trials is not essential; full training will be provided. The role offers exposure to clinical research, ICH‑GCP and trial governance.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the primary contact for the Research & Development core team, study sponsors, clinical research organisations and research teams, communicating regarding data queries, monitoring visits and general trial conduct.
* Assist with the set‑up and initiation of trials under the supervision of Senior Clinical Trials Coordinators.
* Maintain investigator site files and essential documentation in accordance with ICH‑GCP, Trust SOPs, ensuring inspection readiness.
* Process trial amendment submissions within agreed timelines, following ICH‑GCP and Trust SOPs.
* Support Clinical Research Nurses and Principal Investigators with safety reporting and data collection.
* Complete activity logs, recruitment logs, patient visit logs, costing spreadsheets, case report form trackers and electronic proformas.
* Archive trial documents in line with Trust archiving guidelines.
* Order and manage stock of laboratory kits and office supplies.
* Coordinate shipping and delivery of trial data and materials, including tumour blocks, ECGs and other samples.
* Arrange and produce minutes for team and trial‑related meetings.
* Assist with audit and inspection preparation and participation.
* Ensure effective communication with internal service departments, central R&I, clinicians, nurses, trial sponsors, monitors and the wider research community.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
* Flexible and able to manage a busy workload.
* Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
* Diploma or experience in administration.
* Experience of administrative tasks including data management.
* Understanding of the clinical trials process (required). Desirable: knowledge of medical terminology, cancer, patient information systems and health‑care system experience.
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree in a science or health‑related discipline.
* Experience working within a clinical trials environment.
* Experience in a health‑care system.
* Good understanding of the full Microsoft Office suite.
* Ability to work to tight or unexpected deadlines.
