Job Summary
We are looking for a Deputy Head of Dance (Musical Theatre Courses) to work with our Head of Dance and alongside a Deputy Head of Dance (Dance Courses) as part of a team of three. You’ll oversee, build upon, and develop a dance provision for our Musical Theatre courses that is engaging, insightful, and immersive. Leading a team of salaried and hourly‑paid Dance Tutors, you’ll ensure our Musical Theatre graduates enter the profession as outstanding performers.
Job Description
This role has institution‑wide vocational oversight over Jazz, Tap and Commercial across all courses. As line manager, you work closely with the substantive and sessional tutors for Jazz, Tap and Commercial to ensure students receive excellent and inspiring dance training across all courses.
Your skills as a dance practitioner and expertise in musical theatre will mark you out as a strong candidate. You will bring your experience as a choreographer or in preparing students for the profession or both.
The role requires close and autonomous collaboration with our Course Management Team and Heads of Department, understanding the nuances of each programme and its requirements.
Job Requirements
Act as an ambassador for Dance within and externally, raising standards through quality exercises and internal development measures; manage specialist outreach initiatives. Support recruitment, induction and development of dance and musical theatre teachers, line‑managing salaried tutors, ensuring appropriate workload and consistent teaching skill. Ensure teaching coverage meets requirements and student progression is tracked from entry to graduation. Lead observation of specialist teachers and conduct quality processes to ensure high standard of delivery.
Job Responsibilities
* Teach a contingent of classes and act as choreographer/creative for selected productions throughout the year.
* Design suitable schemes of work threaded throughout the student journey as a 3‑4‑year training plan, meeting exceptional skills targets by graduation.
* Track student progression within the discipline of Dance using the skills syllabus and practical development plan.
* Provide advice, knowledge and assistance within the organisation regarding Dance and recent trends.
* Complete reports to develop specialist skills within courses and year groups.
* Deliver teaching and/or choreography in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate courses/programmes.
