Location: The Links CMHT, 1st Floor, Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Cardiff, CF24 0SZ Hours: 37 per week Start Date: 13/04/2026 End Date: ongoing Pay Rate: £21.14 PAYE / £27.59 Umbrella IR35 Status: Inside IR35 About the Client Cardiff Council’s Adult Services Directorate delivers high‑quality, person‑centred support to adults across the city.
The Links Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) provides specialist mental health social work, supporting individuals to maintain independence, improve wellbeing and access appropriate services.
The team works collaboratively with health partners, carers, and community organisations to ensure safe, effective and recovery‑focused interventions.
Role
This Grade 8 Social Worker position is based within the Links CMHT and involves working with adults experiencing mental health difficulties who require assessment, support planning and ongoing intervention.
The post holder will manage complex cases, contribute to safeguarding processes, and provide supervision to Grade 7 Social Workers and Social Work Assistants.
You will work within statutory frameworks, applying professional judgement to ensure safe, high‑quality practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess the needs, risks and circumstances of adults with mental health needs, ensuring compliance with legislation and Council policy.
* Plan, implement and review support packages to promote independence and positive outcomes.
* Work directly with individuals, families and carers to help them make informed decisions and access appropriate services.
* Contribute to safeguarding processes for adults at risk, including attending multi‑agency meetings.
* Provide casework supervision and guidance to junior staff and students.
* Manage a varied and complex caseload, prioritising work effectively within service timescales.
* Prepare clear, concise written reports and maintain accurate case records.
* Participate in duty rotas, team meetings, supervision and service development activities.
* Work independently, including attending court or case conferences without direct managerial support.
* Support the Team Manager with identifying unmet needs, service trends and training requirements.
Candidate Requirements
* Essential: Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
* Registration with Social Care Wales.
* Experience working with adults with mental health needs.
* Experience supervising staff.
* Strong assessment, risk analysis and report‑writing skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively and work in a non‑judgemental, person‑centred manner.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* Full valid driving licence and access to a car.
* Desirable: Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status.
* Experience managing complex caseloads within a mental health setting.
* Ability to offer specialist advice to social care colleagues.
* Welsh or community language skills.
