4pm finish on a Friday.

Closed for two additional days over the Easter break.

First Steps Nursery:

First Steps nursery is a friendly, forward thinking, family-run setting which combines the very latest teaching techniques, In the moment with traditional family values. First Steps actively encourages children to explore, question, play and above all have fun whilst learning in a safe and caring environment. Children are involved in the running of the nursery and in planning their learning and is done through play. With the support of child/adult led activities and an 'In the moment' planning approach.

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of the room supervisor role is:

· To ensure a high standard of physical, personal, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children in their care.

· To give support to other team members within their immediate room and within the wider setting.

· To work with room Senior and as part of a team to provide an enabling environment in which all children can play, learn and develop.

Key areas:

· Work with children and support their education and development

· In partnership with the Senior lead the planning of safe, creative and appropriate learning opportunities.

· Support the day to day management of staff including the supervision, monitoring, development and instruction of staff and students

· Ensure room and equipment is kept in good working order

· Liaise with parents/carers

· Ensure all activity and practices in the room adheres to First Steps policies and procedures and Ofsted requirements.

· To report regularly to the preschool supervisor/manager and keep them updated.

Duties and responsibilities:

· To support the team members to have the specific knowledge and skills required to work effectively with the age/ability/expectations of children in their care.

· To be aware of ensuring the balance of competence of staff in the room and when on trips

· To ensure interactions with and communications about team members is always professional

· Formulate and operate a programme of activities by providing and supporting a robust curriculum that meets individual needs and interests of children in conjunction with other team members and the preschool supervisor/manager

· To keep records of your key children's development and learning journals on tapestry, share this with parents, carers and other key adults in the child's life also provide termly assessments and reports in conjunction with the preschool supervisor/manager.

· Ensuring learning journals are updated with accurate and relevant information about children's observations, activities and development.

· Support all team members with the early identification and intervention for children with possible special needs and give physical, emotional and intellectual guidance working in partnership with the settings SENCO's (Hayley Rahn/Samanatha Ware)

· Working in partnership with Senior, SENCO to ensure all team members in this area to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to complete progress assessments effectively.

· Ensure all children have a completed baseline assessment from main carers and key person 6 weeks after enrolment/ timely manner and regularly reviewed and shared with parents.

· Undertake appropriate supervision meetings/processes for all members in your team in conjunction with the nursery management approach.

· Feed into appraisals, target setting, and nursery operations as deemed appropriate by the manager

· Support all staff to engage in good team working.

· Support team members to see out any training or support they may require fulfilling their roles and responsibilities.

· Support new team members in partnership with the management team

· Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up to date, within your room, including learning journals, accident forms and any other forms/records required for the children's welfare, learning and development (this includes sleep, nappy charts)

· Ensure risk assessments in and outdoors are conducted in line with the nursery procedures and health and safety requirements.

· Liaise with and support parents and other family members.

· To be involved in out of hours activities e.g. training, staff meetings, room meeting, parents evening, other events.

· Undertake and organise certain domestic jobs within the nursery e.g. preparation of snacks, cleaning of equipment and other such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the nursery manager.

· Work alongside the room senior and staff team to ensure that the nursery philosophy is fulfilled.

· Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role as deemed appropriate for the needs of young children.

· Ensure someone known and agreed by the nursery and parent collects each child.

· To ensure confidentiality of all information received by all team members vin your area.

· To ensure that all staff are aware of the importance of attending training, meetings, open days/evenings.

For preschool room supervisor:

Support all team members to conduct school transition documents of each key child to send to school to allow new provision to have a clear understanding of each child's key strengths and areas of development.

Specific childcare tasks

· To support and facilitate the preparation and completion of activities to provide a robust curriculum to suit each individual child's stage of development and interests.

· To support all staff to develop their role within the team especially as a key person

· To ensure mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing and that sleep time (where appropriate) is a calming time.

· Ensuring any poorly children are kept calm and reassured and that parents called to be notified for children to be collected with permission form management

· To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day to day caring and early learning needs

· To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children regardless of any disability's family backgrounds or medical history

· To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and ensure all staff always uphold its standards, both within work hours and outside.

· To complete well being concern forms (arrival with injury) to ensure that the nursery manager (DSL) is informed of any children which they have concerns about and to implement strategies in accordance with safeguarding requirements and ILP/EHP for the child.

· To be ready to work and greet the children at your designated time

· To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the setting and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement and contributions onto their child's learning journey onto Tapestry.

· To work in Partnership with Senior management and team to update and review the self-evaluation and termly curriculum.

· To undertake any other reasonable duties and training as directed, in accordance with the settings aims and objectivise.

· To attend staff meeting with reasonable notice, and to contribute to such meeting if training has been undertaken.

· To wear and as reasonably possible the setting uniform, ensuring that footwear is safe and for for purpose.

· To take a leading key person/buddy role

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £12.21-£13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
