In order to support the Trust’s Major Trauma Centre in the Yorkshire and Humber region, we are looking to appoint an Orthopaedic Major Trauma Consultant. This permanent post will maintain our established team of Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants, who lead the care of patients following major trauma at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver 10 PAs supporting the Major Trauma team.
* Provide direct care to patients with major trauma injuries at Leeds General Infirmary and in outpatient clinics.
* Supervise patients and manage in‑patients on a 1:10 on call rota.
* Contribute to the training of national trainees in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
* Offer clinical expertise to teams in referring centres and link with consultant colleagues in other relevant specialist teams within the hospital and across the Major Trauma Network.
* Deliver acute on‑call cover 1:10, including out of hours cover and acute ward rounds during normal working hours.
* Support research, teaching and new developments within the Major Trauma Service and facilitate current clinical research programmes.
Qualifications
* Completed higher specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics or equivalent.
* Included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
* Full clinical experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics with demonstrated management of major trauma.
* Strong commitment to teaching and service development.
Experience
* Extensive experience working as an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon in a major trauma environment.
* Proven track record in undergraduate and postgraduate education and research.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Person Specification
* Professional S (or equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
* Significant surgical experience in major trauma cases.
* Capability to work full or part time and willingness to job share.
* Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
