We have an excellent opportunity to join our Vision Screening Team!
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Vision Screener to join the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme team across Cambridgeshire.
You will be joining a proactive skill mix team working to provide a seamless service to children, young people and their families delivering the Healthy Child Programme in line with Cambridgeshire Community Service NHS Trust commissioned role will involve liaising with schools to plan vision screening sessions for reception pupils, undertaking the screening and collating and recording results.
Experience of screening is not necessary as full training will be given. However excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential along with experience of working as part of a team and on your own initiative.
We provide an induction programme along with appropriate training and development opportunities to extend your knowledge and skills to deliver the vision screening programme.

Please note that the ability to travel to schools across the county is essential.
Main duties of the job
Screening for vision defects is part of the healthy child programme; the aim of screening is early identification for children with amblyopia (lazy eye). By undertaking the screening in the reception year, treatment where identified as necessary, has the potential to improve vison.

Job responsibilities
Job Purpose:
1. To provide easy access, countywide vision screening services for the early detection of amblyopia (Lazy Eye) at an age where treatment has the potential to improve vision.
2. To improve uptake of screening in populations at high risk of visual defects.
3. To liaise with Schools regarding planning and completing sessions.
4. To undertake the screening of individual pupils, record the results and send the results home to parents.
5. To accurately record screening results onto the clinical record.
6. To provide a high standard of care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
7. The post holder will work with a fellow vision Screener to undertake the school based vision screening for all eligible reception pupils in Cambridgeshire.
8. Recording the results onto the electronic clinical record, record the results onto a feedback letter for parents and send these results home with the child on the day of screening.
9. The post holder will liaise with the schools regarding planning and booking sessions and follow-up sessions, undertake the sessions as planned and refer those pupils that fail the screening to follow on care appropriately.
10. To ensure the schools receive consent letters to send to families in a timely manner and monitor the op-out returns prior to the screening session.
11. To receive class lists from the schools and ensure all pupils where consent has been withdrawn is not screening.
12. Deal with all telephone enquiries from schools/parents in relation to the vision screening and signpost them to relevant support as appropriate.
13. To be able to prioritise workload according to the needs of the programme.
14. The post holder will liaise with colleagues and other members of the multi agency team as necessary to ensure colleagues are aware of any changes to pupils needs.
15. Undertake training to develop new skills and maintain/update existing skills.
Communication
16. To communicate effectively with the schools regarding information relating to the screening process and feedback following the screening session.
17. Maintain relationships with schools and lead orthoptist.
18. Assist with providing information and data for reports as requested for performance meetings.
19. To be able to work as part of a team across Cambridgeshire.
