Job Description
The role
You will act for policyholders in respect of disputed insurance claims, supporting them through all stages of the process up to resolution—whether in Court or arbitral proceedings, or consensually by mediation or negotiation.
Role expectations
As a lawyer at Clifford Chance, your remit is to apply your full knowledge of the law within your specialist area by identifying legal issues, drafting and advising clients.
Who you will work with
Clifford Chance's global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice has around 600 lawyers across the UK, Continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the United States. Our teams handle high-risk litigation, international arbitration and regulatory investigations, with a strong focus on cross-border disputes.
The London team comprises around 30 partners and 100+ associates.

What you will be responsible for
* Representing insurance policyholders on insurance coverage disputes, including areas such as business interruption, construction, credit political risk, and directors' and officers' insurance.
* Assisting insureds with notifications to insurers, analysing coverage and presenting claims.
* Opportunities to represent major insurers and other clients in disputes and contentious regulatory matters.
Transactional and Advisory Work
* Regularly advising banks and corporates on the use of insurance (notably credit insurance) in complex transactions.
* Providing assistance where insurance issues arise in major transactions, e.g., advising on cover for risks identified in M&A transactions.
* Conducting policy reviews to summarise and advise on scope and adequacy of insurance and potential amendments.

* Engaging with Knowledge resources and collaborating on Knowledge initiatives for the Firm.
* Managing matters with disciplined practice, including timely timesheet submissions and conflicts clearance.
* Adopting Best Delivery tools: templates, Legal Support Centre, Resource Management, Legal Project Management; opportunities to pitch for new work and business development.

Qualifications
Your experience
We are looking for an outstanding lawyer with strong working knowledge of insurance law and practice. You will currently be practising at a top-rank firm, with intellectual rigor, first-class legal ability and an outstanding academic record.
Skills
We seek lawyers with exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong technical ability, and comfort with researching and applying complex areas of law. A mature approach to client business development and close client relationships at the same level of PQE is desirable. We are looking for someone who is exceptionally driven and seeking a more demanding challenge.
* Mid-level lawyer with outstanding experience in insurance matters.
* Extensive knowledge of issues across all areas of coverage disputes.
* First-class legal ability with practical commercial awareness and extensive negotiation skills.
