Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate hospital pharmacist seeking to utilise and strengthen their leadership skills. This post-holder will join the Group Senior Leadership Team for Pharmacy at University Hospital Tees to provide leadership in Patient Safety, and to deliver the Trust-wide pharmacy patient safety strategy and the wider PSIRF agenda.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist with excellent leadership, governance, and management skills. Experience in a team management role in a hospital setting at a Band 8a level or above is essential (please see the Job description and/or person specification for further details). You will also need to be able to work autonomously and effectively contribute to the priorities of the pharmacy leadership team.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for developing and managing the provision of a coordinated and comprehensive patient safety and governance agenda for designated collaborative within the organisation, to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines within UHT.

The post involves managing and supervising the duties of senior and specialist pharmacists, pre and post registration foundation pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff to ensure we are compliant with national guidance and recommendations of our auditors.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Masters Degree in Pharmacy
2. Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
3. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification
4. Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation
5. Evidence of CPD and ongoing education

Desirable criteria

6. Relevant postgraduate clinical qualification or management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting
8. Staff leadership and management experience
9. Experience in mentorship and training for other staff
10. Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services budgetary reports, drug usage reviews
11. Developments of protocols and policies
12. Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals
13. Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit and service improvement projects
14. Experience of involvement in multidisciplinary service development

Knowledge

Essential criteria

15. Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice
16. Guidelines and protocol development
17. Strong knowledge of medicines information resources
