About the Role
A welcoming and supportive primary school in Newport is seeking a compassionate and motivated Behaviour Mentor to work within its Learning Resource Base (LRB) from May 2026. The LRB supports pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) who benefit from extra guidance with emotional regulation, communication, confidence, and engagement in learning.
This is a highly rewarding position where you will play a key role in helping pupils build positive routines, develop their social‑emotional skills, and access learning successfully.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small‑group mentoring to support pupils’ emotional and social development
* Use positive, consistent behaviour‑support strategies to help pupils engage with learning
* Support tailored learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff
* Help maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing environment within the LRB
* Encourage confidence, independence, and resilience in pupils
* Work collaboratively with teachers, ALNCo, and external professionals
* Promote wellbeing, inclusion, and positive relationships
What We’re Looking For
* Experience supporting children with ALN or additional needs (desirable)
* A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
* Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
* Ability to remain positive, consistent, and proactive
* Willingness to learn and adapt to a range of pupil needs
* Understanding of behaviour‑support strategies (training available)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
