Role Details:
As a Civil Engineer within the nuclear defence sector, you will play a key role in the design, development, and maintenance of critical civil and structural infrastructure supporting national defence operations. The role involves ensuring compliance with stringent safety, regulatory, and security standards while contributing to the integrity, resilience, and performance of complex engineering projects.
This position is predominantly home-based, offering flexibility in daily working arrangements, with occasional site visits required for project meetings, inspections, and construction or maintenance oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, assess, and maintain project and design documentation, including design changes and concessions.
* Produce and manage EIMT schedules, procedures, and results to meet design and safety case requirements.
* Prepare and review safety reports and technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications.
* Provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
* Conduct Independent Technical and Peer Reviews (ITA/IPR).
* Apply engineering principles to the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure in nuclear or high-risk environments.
* Review and verify calculations, technical reports, and safety case submissions from colleagues and contractors.
Key Requirements:
Essential:
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in assessing reinforced concrete and steel structures under static and dynamic loads.
* Proven ability to produce technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications.
* Strong application of engineering knowledge to existing and emerging technologies.
* Experience providing civil input to multi-discipline projects.
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Incorporated Engineer (or equivalent experience).
Desirable:
* Experience with reinforced concrete and steel structures in marine or similar environments.
* Experience within nuclear or other high-hazard industries (preferred but not essential).
* Knowledge of full lifecycle engineering processes in high-risk environments.
* Familiarity with safety case development and hazard studies (e.g. HAZID/HAZOP).
* Chartered Engineer status.
