The Role: Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicatedGraduate Teaching Assistantto support pupils withspecial educational needsin a dynamic primary school. This is the perfect opportunity for a recent graduate looking to gain first-hand classroom experience, particularly in SEN. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the SEN Department to enhance student outcomes and engagement. You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from experienced colleagues to help you thrive in your role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborating with teachers to support students with diverse SEN needs, ensuring they make expected progress
* Providing 1:1 and small group SEN support
* Collaborating with class teachers and therapists
* Encouraging independence and confidence in pupils with additional needs
* Creating an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that fosters learning and participation
* Adapting learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs while encouraging student ownership of their learning
* Demonstrating a proactive and empathetic approach to supporting SEN students
* Supporting other students in the classroom as needed
* Applying subject knowledge effectively to assist both teachers and students
* Reflecting on and improving your practice through self-evaluation and CPD.
The ideal candidate:
* Qualifications to degree standard or equivalent, relevant degree (usually a bachelor’s in education or a subject related to the one you’ll teach).
* An excellent standard of written and spoken English
* Previous experience of supporting learning of students
* Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers
* Some knowledge of working with young people with challenging behaviour
* A motivated and empatheticGraduate Teaching Assistant
* DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)
* Some experience with children or young people (paid or voluntary)
* Experience of working with young people in an educational or training environment
* Experience of establishing and maintaining working relationships with a range of people
